Chairman’s Message
   
The latest official data on Index of Industrial Production and exports show that the global economic meltdown has had much more than a ripple effect on our economy. And this is especially so in the case of the textiles and clothing industry, which has started showing decline in production as per the IIP data, export deceleration as per DGCI&S figures and negative profits as per data available from BSE. Partial and piecemeal economic stimulus packages can hardly bolster the sagging business and consumer sentiments, in such a situation.

Secretary General's Message
   
There were some signs of a recovery in our textile industry around the first quarter of the current fiscal, in the context of a depreciation of rupee. But that turned out to be a transient phase, with the global economic crisis upsetting all calculations. Currently, textile exports are declining and domestic demand is low. Losses are mounting in the industry and most units are starved of working capital for continuing production.
