India has more than 7500 kilometers of coastline having about 150 working ports. Chennai port and Tuticorin Port are two major ports of Tamil Nadu state. Both the ports are well connected by road and railways. About 90 per cent of the sea borne trade is handled by 12 Major ports in India. To sustain rise in volume of exports in the manufacturing sector and to improve export competitiveness, Government of India has given utmost importance to development of ports and infrastructure.
